Date: February 2012
In 2012, the World Bank imposed a three-year suspension on Alstom Hydro France, Alstom Network Schweiz AG (Switzerland) and its associated entities due to payment misconduct.
The investigation revealed that Alstom made an improper 'consultancy' payment to a company owned by a senior Zambian government official during the procurement process for a contract with Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (ZESCO) concerning a power rehabilitation initiative.
As part of the settlement, Alstom paid restitution of US$9.5 million and agreed to ongoing cooperation with the World Bank throughout the investigation into this issue.
