These findings provide an important insight into the perception people have about corruption in today's world. They also help identify priorities for preventative action in the future.
The first Global Corruption Barometer was published in 2003. Gallup International started conducting an annual Voice of the People survey in 2002. Transparency International's Global Corruption Barometer is derived from a subset of questions commissioned through this survey. This survey investigates a wide variety of areas and issues across many countries, with several questions related to public views on corruption.
Fieldwork for the survey was conducted in July 2002, and there were over 40,000 respondents from 47 countries.
