Survey on corruption in the Middle East and North Africa to be released on 11 December
Data offers new insights about citizens’ experience with wasta, sextortion and vote-buying
Transparency International, the leading civil society organisation fighting corruption worldwide, will release the Global Corruption Barometer (GCB) – Middle East and North Africa (MENA), on Wednesday 11 December 2019 at 8:01 CET.
In a region that has seen mass protests against corruption in several countries in 2019, the survey presents a comprehensive set of public opinion data on citizens’ views on corruption and direct experiences of bribery. It covers six countries - Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan and Tunisia.
For the first time in the MENA region, citizens in Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine were asked about their perceptions and experiences of sexual extortion, or sextortion, a gender-specific form of corruption. Respondents were also asked about their experiences of vote-buying, threats of retaliation if they do not vote a certain way, and the spread of fake news.
